How to Play Sudoku
- The grid has 9 rows, 9 columns and nine 3 x 3 boxes.
- Fill every empty square with a number from 1 to 9.
- Each row, each column and each 3 x 3 box must contain every number from 1 to 9 exactly once.
- No guessing is needed. Each puzzle can be solved with logic alone.
Solving Tips for Harder Puzzles
- Start with the busiest areas. Rows, columns or boxes with the most numbers are the easiest to finish.
- Use pencil marks. Write small possible numbers in the corner of each square, then erase them as you rule them out.
- Look for single candidates. If only one number fits a square, write it in.
- Look for hidden singles. If a number can only go in one place in a row, column or box, it belongs there.
- Take a break. Expert puzzles often look easier after a few minutes away.

Print at 100% on US Letter paper and solve with a pencil. Print the answer pages separately if you do not want to see them by accident. Free for personal and classroom use.
